Being happy is a state of mind, and whichever thing is a state of mind is under your control, you choose it, whether you know it or not, whether you are conscious of it or not.
And your mind is extremely powerful because it has been endowed with higher processes of existence, namely the condition called ‘attention.’ Happiness then can be found within yourself by the masterful use of your attention; so, if you focus on directing your attention to the positives in your life, however meager they might be for you, then soon you will clear your mind from negatives and experience a constant feel of happiness spreading throughout your whole body, even in the midst of chaos and economic challenges.
This is a good and simple practice, which brings humility and happiness in your daily living, I have adopted and that I suggest to you: Remind yourself that there are people in the world that do not have even what you have, the basic necessities of the human being as food and shelter; they struggle for these things and suffer mental and physical pains you will never have to suffer. So, no matter your troubles, you are blessed.
Analyze your life and awaken yourself to this greater realization; train your ego to acknowledge this, and know to focus your attention on being constantly grateful of what you do have.
The world, with its greed for more, wants and desires that never end, buy more of this and that, immature competitions and jealousies, does not have this wisdom. You must develop this wisdom and raise yourself above the pitiful and asleep world.
